Definitions

  • Position points: 3/2/1/0 for 1st–4th in a heat, 0 without a finish; tactical doubles and bonus points left out, so leagues compare. A fair share is 1.5 per ride.
  • Average: points plus bonus points per heat in the scoring heats.
  • Gates: the programme gate (A–D or 1–4); at FIM meetings without programme gates the helmet colour in heats 1–20 (red 1, blue 2, white 3, yellow 4).
  • Meeting: one venue on one day, counted once when several series list it.

Ratings and predictions

Elo updates every rider after each heat (every pair of riders in a heat is a game, K = 24). Bradley–Terry gives every rider one strength and every gate an advantage, fitted to all pairs, with older heats counting less. Extra inputs (form, track record, track experience (meetings ridden there), workload, age, rain) are added only when they predict held-out heats better, and the final model is tested on heats it never saw; the power ranking page shows the result.

Known gaps

Grand Prix heats before 2022 come from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0) where available. League results start in different seasons (PGE Ekstraliga 2007, Metalkas 2 2017, Elit Speedway 2011, Premiership 2021, Speedway Ligaen 2022). Riders known only by name in a source (Svemo, British scorecards) may be split into two records. About 40 % of Premiership points come from riders without a known nationality.
